Bishop’s Castle has been awarded “Walkers are Welcome” status. So it’s official, Bishop’s Castle is a great place for walkers.

Three women from the Market Drayton Ramblers were awarded their bc ring badges on 18 January 2009. They were the first led group to complete the 60 miles circuit over 5 days of walking, in 2008. Diane Miller, Dorothy Camden and Marlene Farrington used local walk guides to complete this exploration of the hills and valleys around Bishop’s Castle. ‘ We really enjoyed the constantly changing scenes and snippets of local information throughout the days’ says Diane ‘ and whenever we needed a rest, we could look back on all the beautiful landscape we had travelled’

The picture here shows Catherine Murphy, on behalf of the Bishop’s Castle Walking Festival group, presenting the cloth badges to Dorothy, Diane and Marlene before they set off on another walk in the Church Stretton Hills. A fourth member of this women’s group, Hillary Howell, was not able to join the group presentation.
